Aluminum non-locking carabiners provide a variety of utility functions such as racking equipment or as the "keeper" carabiner on a load-release hitch. The oval design places equal amounts of force on the spine and gate allowing the carabiner to maintain full strength. Ovals are also used in critical climbing or rescue applicaitons where a stuck gate must be avoided, and then are always used as pairs, rigged opposite and opposed.
