Step 1
SAFETY
-
This is a firearm, treat it as if it were loaded at all times!
-
Never point it at something you don’t intend to shoot.
-
Keep it pointed at the ground, and your finger off the trigger, until you are ready to shoot the line over the cable. |

 |
Step 2
Have the “Communicator” tell the stranded patrons you are going to shoot a line over the cables and there will be a gun shot sound.
Put on the safety glasses and ear plugs, if you are not already wearing them.
Get positioned between the cables. You will shoot from “inside” to “outside”. |
 |
Step 3
Take the red bag containing the messenger line, dummy and blank cartridges and position it at your feet with the top open.
Insure the red line is attached to the “Dummy”. |
 |
Step 4
Slide the “Dummy” over the muzzle of the line gun. |
 |
Step 5
There are two powder loads for the line gun: green and yellow. Yellow loads are more powerful than the green loads. Most of the “Shots” will use the green loads.
Insert a blank cartridge in the breech. |
 |
Step 6
Pivot the front assembly up into position and engage the breech lock. The line gun is now “loaded” and should be treated like any other loaded firearm! Keep the muzzle pointed at the ground until you are ready to shoot. |
 |
Step 7
Cock the gun by pulling the cocking lever rearwards slowly and smoothly until the trigger sear engages and captures the firing pin.
The line gun is loaded and can be fired. Keep the muzzle of the line gun pointed at the ground until you are in position and the area is clear. |
 |
Step 8
Get positioned between the cables. You will shoot from “inside” to “outside”.
Aim between the Com. Line and the Cable and midway between tower and first chair or way in front of the first loaded chair.
Keep your trigger finger extended on the frame above the trigger until you are completely ready to shoot.
Yell “FIRE IN THE HOLE” loudly so that all of your fellow team members can hear you, as well as the patrons on the chair.
Slowly pull the trigger rearward while maintaining your aim until the gun discharges.
The “Dummy” and the attached line will arc up and over the cable well away from the patrons and fall to the ground nearly underneath the cable. |
 |
Step 9
Attach the carabiner on the end of the red line to the end of the chair evac. rope that has been tied in a Figure-8-on a bight. Be sure to lock the carabiner gate. |
 |
Step 10
The Belayer will pull the red line, rope saver and the evac. rope over the cable and properly position the “rope saver” on the cable.
Unclip the carabiner from the evac. rope, but keep it attached to the red messenger line.
Open the breech, remove the expended cartridge and close the breech. |
 |
Step 11
Reclip the carabiner to the red bag and restack the line in the red bag beginning with the line closest to the carabiner. When completed the line should come out of the bag smoothly and tangle free.
Take the line gun, red bag and line to the next tower span with stranded patrons and repeat the process. |
