Sunflower to Mount Peeley
The Hike - Take passage 22 of the Arizona Trail from Cross F Trailhead to the High Water Access. Come prepared for a pleasant walk in the Mazatzal foothills with amazing views of nearby peaks and the Sycamore Creek country. This hike is described in Footloose from Phoenix, by Ted Tenny, pages 85-91. Passage 22 of the Arizona Trail is described on pages 180-187 of Arizona Trail: The Official Guide by Tom Jones and Jerry Sieve, Westcliffe Publishers, 2005. Distance - 6 miles Elevation Change - +610'-870' Elevations - 3970' (pass) to 3400' (Sycamore Creek) Time - 4-5 hours Starting at: Cross F Trailhead, 33° 54.520' N, 111° 28.968' W [NAD27] Ending at: High Water Access, 33° 51.875' N, 111° 28.308' W [NAD27] On trail - 100% — Arizona Trail, passage 22 Dogs - no Cost - Sharing gas expenses with the driver. Meet - 7:00 AM in the parking lot of the Target Center on the south side of Shea Blvd., about a mile west of Highway 87 (Beeline). For those leaving their cars behind, please park up against the north curb away from Target. Drive: • Go north on route 87 and turn left at the sign for Sycamore Creek at mile marker 222.5. • Stay on the paved road (old 87) until a short distance past the sign saying 1 mile to end of the road. • Pull in at Cross F Trailhead, which is on the left (room for maybe 5 cars). • Directly across the paved road is the trail and a trail sign.
